Paraguay livestock sector focuses on technical intensification
Martín Céspedes, president of the Technical Commission of the Asociación Rural del Paraguay (ARP), has emphasized the need for technical intensification within the national livestock sector to support the recomposition of the Paraguayan cattle herd.
Céspedes argues that rather than immediately increasing the number of breeding cows, the priority should be maximizing production from the existing reproductive base. This involves not only achieving pregnancy but also sustaining it through the entire process from service to weaning.
New analyses presented during the 'Inteligencia Reproductiva' session suggest that the actual pregnancy rate is approximately 57% when calculated based on females that effectively reach service, a more precise figure than previous estimates of 50% to 52%. Céspedes noted that improving data collection and monitoring technical losses after gestation diagnosis are critical steps for the industry's growth.
