Paraguay National Police dismisses over 200 officers after integrity tests
Paraguay's National Police is undergoing a significant integrity purge. Commander General César Silguero reported that more than 200 agents have been dismissed since 2023 after failing integrity evaluations, which include polygraph examinations. These tests are applied annually to officers seeking promotion to ensure their profiles align with the responsibilities of higher ranks.
Separately, Police Department Public Relations Chief Juan Fretes stated that 109 officers have received dishonorable discharges over the last three years due to criminal involvement. Of these, 44 occurred within the last year. The dismissals include personnel involved in serious crimes such as organized crime, homicide, and property crimes.
Senator Rafael Filizzola noted that 27% of the dismissals among active-duty personnel are assistant non-commissioned officers, suggesting that current training processes may be insufficient.
