Paraguay police dismantle dating app kidnapping ring

Paraguayan authorities launched ‘Operation False Match’ in Ciudad del Este, resulting in the arrest of four suspects, including one teenager, for running a kidnapping and robbery ring. The criminal group targeted men through dating applications, specifically focusing on foreigners such as Brazilians and Europeans.

According to investigators, victims were lured to meeting points and then taken to isolated areas by armed accomplices. Once held captive, victims were subjected to threats and violence to force them into making Pix transfers or taking out bank loans. One recent victim, a French tourist, was held for over 24 hours and forced to transfer the equivalent of R$ 40,000.

Police searched the San Rafael neighborhood, identified as the group's base, seizing mobile phones, clothing, and narcotics during the operation.
