Paraguay seeks trade growth with Uruguay and organic agriculture expansion

Paraguay is pursuing economic expansion through both regional trade integration and the growth of its organic agricultural sector.

In an effort to strengthen commercial ties with Uruguay, Paraguayan authorities and business leaders are seeking new opportunities in food, beverages, textiles, and metalworking. Minister of Industry and Commerce Marco Riquelme is conducting institutional meetings, including visits to Uruguayan port authorities and logistics centers, to exchange expertise in infrastructure and trade facilitation.

Simultaneously, President Santiago Peña announced ambitions to scale Paraguay’s organic agriculture industry. During the XVII Annual Ordinary Assembly of the Inter-American Commission on Organic Agriculture (CIAO) in Asunción, Peña noted that the sector currently covers approximately 160,000 hectares with 7,500 certified producers. The industry generated $40 million in exports over the last year, and the government aims to increase this through higher investment and added value.
