Paraguay Senate reviews legislation on child labor and 'criadazgo
The Senate Commission on Family, Childhood, Adolescence and Youth in Paraguay is reviewing a legislative project aimed at addressing child labor and 'criadazgo' (a practice involving the upbringing of children by other families). Legislators are working in coordination with the Ministry of Children and Adolescence and the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security to finalize a consensus text.
Commission President Lizarella Valiente noted that certain practices related to child labor and 'criadazgo' are deeply rooted and socially normalized, despite posing risks to the integrity of minors. The initiative seeks to strengthen comprehensive protection measures and enhance the country's institutional response to these issues.
