Paraguay to host mass wedding for 1,000 couples
The second edition of the national campaign ‘Paraguay se casa’ (Paraguay gets married) is underway, aiming to formalize the unions of 1,000 couples currently living in concubinage. The central ceremony is scheduled for November 15 at the SND Area of the Secretaría Nacional de Deportes in Asunción.
Organized by the Registro del Estado Civil, the initiative provides free civil marriage services, waiving fees and certificates to assist those facing economic or administrative barriers. The program is open to residents of Asunción, the Central department, and other parts of the country, provided they can travel to the capital.
Maximiliano Ayala, director general of the Registro del Estado Civil, stated that the goal is to establish these free ceremonies as a national tradition. Last year, the institution successfully formalized the unions of more than 3,500 couples across the country.
