Transnational crime networks dismantled in Brazil, Paraguay, and Peru

Law enforcement agencies across South America have conducted several major operations targeting transnational organized crime networks.

In Brazil, the Federal Police dismantled a human trafficking ring under ‘Operation Puro Engaño’. The network targeted Paraguayan and Argentine women for sexual exploitation in border towns such as Missal and San Miguel de Iguazú. Investigators found that victims were often trapped by debts incurred during clandestine transport and imposed fines.

In Paraguay, ‘Operation Espejismo’ in La Paloma del Espíritu Santo led to the arrest of five Brazilian nationals linked to the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) faction. Authorities seized an arsenal including assault rifles and shotguns, and are working to deport the suspects to Brazil. One individual sought to evade justice through plastic surgery.

In Peru, the Ministry of Defense reported a successful strike against the Comando Vermelho criminal organization in the Amazonian triple border region. The operation, involving Peruvian and Brazilian authorities, resulted in the destruction of a clandestine cocaine laboratory and the seizure of long-range weapons and body armor.
