Paraguayan sailor missing in Paraná River accident

A search is underway for Ricardo León Aguilera, a 30-year-old Paraguayan sailor who went missing in the Paraná River near Corrientes, Argentina. The disappearance occurred following a maritime accident involving an auxiliary boat from the tugboat Cavalier IV.

According to reports, the accident happened when the auxiliary vessel suffered a mechanical failure and was adrift. The current swept the boat downstream, causing two crew members to fall into the river. One sailor, Enrique Javier Fernández, was recovered by colleagues but was later confirmed deceased despite resuscitation efforts.

Aguilera’s family, based in Yby Yaú, is calling on the Paraguayan government and Ministry of Foreign Affairs to coordinate with Argentine authorities to intensify search operations. They noted that Aguilera’s life jacket was found under a barge, suggesting he may have been swept away by the current. Both men were professional graduates of the Naval Forces Nautical School with several years of experience in the fluvial sector.
