Paraguay's guaraní reaches strongest level against dollar since 2018

The Paraguayan guaraní has reached its strongest level against the US dollar since late 2018. As of August 28, 2026, the exchange rate was approximately 5,990 guaraníes per dollar, a significant appreciation from the 6,575.71 rate recorded at the end of 2025.

This currency strength is driven largely by robust export receipts, including record soybean revenues. Total exports reached US$12.13 billion in the first seven months of the year. While the appreciation reflects economic strength, it has caused tension within domestic business chambers that earn revenue in dollars.

The Banco Central del Paraguay (BCP) maintained the policy rate at 5.50% on August 25, 2026. Net international reserves were reported at US$11.45 billion as of August 21, 2026.
