Parakou market buvette destroyed in fire

A buvette at the entrance of Titirou market in Parakou, Benin, was completely destroyed by a fire on the afternoon of 29 July 2026. No fatalities were reported, but the blaze consumed all furniture, equipment and metal structures, leaving only a few remnants such as an electrical meter and hanging wires.

Firefighters arrived after most of the damage had occurred. The cause of the fire remains unknown, prompting local residents to call for stronger fire‑prevention measures and stricter safety standards in the city’s markets.
