Paralympic Open Days in Italy Promote Rehabilitation Through Sport

On 29 June 2026 the Paralympic Committee of Basilicata and INAIL hosted an open day at the ASD Gingles field in Villa Santa Maria, Potenza. The event offered ten INAIL‑injured workers free instruction and training in paralympic tennis, with sessions led by coach Giovanni Ostuni and technical assistant Donatello Vaccaro.

A separate open day was held the following day at the Santa Maria Bambina rehabilitation centre near Sardinia’s Basilica del Rimedio. Organized by the Nostra Signora del Rimedio Foundation and the Sardinian Paralympic Committee, the day featured demonstrations of para‑sports such as table‑football, fencing, archery, swimming and sailing, and included testimonies from former patients now competing at regional and national levels. Both initiatives aim to use sport as therapy, foster social inclusion, and encourage the long‑term reintegration of people with disabilities into community life.
