Paramaribo Academic Hospital to modernize pediatric facilities
The Academic Hospital Paramaribo (AZP) is set to undergo significant modernization through the GranMorgu Mother & Child Healthcare Project. Launched on October 26, the initiative focuses on expanding and renovating pediatric care services.
Sponsored by TotalEnergies, the project includes four key components: the renovation of the Academic Pediatric Center Suriname (APCS), the implementation of a Pediatric Outreach Program, investments in medical equipment and furniture for the APCS, and the modernization of the OBGYN Mother & Child Center. Specific upgrades target the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).
During the launch, President Jennifer Simons emphasized that the benefits of the oil and gas sector must be tangibly felt by the population through improved social services. To ensure safety during construction, affected departments will be temporarily relocated to the Military Hospital. The project also aims to increase community access to care via mobile consultations and health screenings.
