Paramaribo infrastructure projects involve roadwork and sewerage repairs

Infrastructure maintenance and roadwork projects are underway in Paramaribo, Suriname, to improve urban drainage and road durability.

On the Slangenhoutstraat, between Hernhutterstraat and Van ’t Hogerhuysstraat, excavation and sewerage works are scheduled from Friday, October 16, at 19:00 until Thursday, October 22, at 05:00. These works aim to improve water drainage in response to local rainfall patterns. The Suriname Police Corps (KPS) advises motorists to follow local instructions and suggests alternative routes such as Gemenelandsweg or Surinameweg to avoid delays.

Simultaneously, the Ministry of Public Works and Spatial Planning (OWRO) has initiated asphalting repairs on J. Lachmonstraat as part of a primary road rehabilitation project in Greater Paramaribo. Technical inspections identified issues including cracking, potholes, and rutting caused by aging and heavy traffic. The repairs are being conducted by Caremco Holding N.V. under the supervision of Bureau Sintec N.V. to prevent further structural damage from upcoming heavy rains.
