Paramaribo road closure for sewage system upgrades

The Slangenhoutstraat in Paramaribo is partially closed between Van ’t Hogerhuysstraat and Hernhutterstraat due to essential sewage system upgrades. The work, conducted by Kuldipsingh Infra N. V., involves replacing culverts under both Slangenhoutstraat and Calcuttastraat to improve drainage and reduce flooding in the area.

This initiative is part of the broader Van ’t Hogerhuysstraat rehabilitation project, which began in late August and is expected to last twenty months. Project manager Rodney Wongsosoeparto stated that addressing the sewage system is a critical prerequisite for the project's continued progress. The work currently focuses on the longest section of the sewage line in Slangenhoutstraat, with at least eight specific locations identified for intervention.

Following the completion of these works, the project will expand from Molenpad toward the Wijdenboschbrug. Kuldipsingh Infra N. V. is coordinating with utility companies, the Motor Surveillance Dienst (MSD), local businesses, and residents to manage the impact. While efforts are being made to allow local traffic access, full reopening of the affected section is expected by Thursday, October 22.
