Paramount+ Head of Originals outlines new programming strategy

Jane Wiseman, EVP and Head of Originals for Paramount+, has outlined the streaming service's programming strategy following her first year in the role. Under the leadership of Wiseman and Cindy Holland, the platform has seen 28 new series pickups and 16 renewals across scripted, unscripted, and family categories.

The strategy focuses on female-forward content, genre and YA dramas, kids and family programming, and unscripted shows, while notably excluding comedies. Wiseman highlighted ongoing relationships with major creators Taylor Sheridan and Tyler Perry, and noted that the service is beginning to purchase content from outside studios for the first time.

This programming shift follows the Skydance acquisition of Paramount and includes platform consolidation, such as folding BET+ into Paramount+ and removing the Showtime name from the top tier. The company also faces long-term shifts, including the upcoming departure of Taylor Sheridan to NBCUniversal in approximately two years and the pending, legally contested acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery.
