Paramount+ programming and content restructuring
Overview
Paramount+ is implementing a new programming and content strategy following the Skydance acquisition. The service is shifting its focus toward female-forward content, genre and YA dramas, unscripted shows, and family programming, while notably excluding comedies.
Under the leadership of Jane Wiseman and Cindy Holland, the platform has secured 28 new series pickups and 16 renewals. This restructuring includes platform consolidation, such as the integration of BET+ and the removal of the Showtime brand from the top tier. The company is also beginning to purchase content from outside studios.
Recent developments involve both cancellations and new expansions. The service has cancelled the second season of ‘Dexter: Original Sin’ to focus on ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ and discontinued ‘NCIS: Tony & Ziva’ due to costs and viewership. Simultaneously, the platform is greenlighting new projects, including a ‘Clueless’ event series and the fourth season of ‘Tulsa King’, while scheduling various established series for release in late 2026.
