Paraná, Brazil hosts seminar to strengthen coastal conservation units

The Mater Natura – Institute of Environmental Studies organized a two‑day seminar on 6‑7 August at the auditorium of the Federal Institute of Paraná, Campus Paranaguá. The event gathered researchers, public managers, traditional community representatives, universities and civil‑society organisations to discuss governance, social participation, ecological restoration, biodiversity monitoring, sustainable tourism, payment for environmental services and private natural heritage reserves, aiming to reinforce the network of protected areas along the Paraná coast.

At the same time, Brazilian agribusiness is increasingly integrating wildlife preservation into production models. Studies highlighted that maintaining native fauna and ecological corridors supports pollination, biological pest control and water regulation, which can improve farm profitability and resilience. Advanced monitoring technologies such as drones, camera traps and satellite mapping are being used to track animal movements and assess their positive impact on crops, turning environmental stewardship into a market advantage for producers.
