Paraná coastal and regional development

In late July, state deputy Goura and Senate hopefuls visited coastal towns and the western interior of Paraná, meeting community leaders, university groups and NGOs. Their agenda covered infrastructure deficits, waste management, artisanal fishing, agro‑ecological transitions, and the proposed New Ferroeste railway linking the western region to the Port of Paranaguá. The visits highlighted local concerns such as deteriorating roads, unreliable power, and aging water‑supply systems.

A few days later, the Mater Natura Institute convened a two‑day seminar in Paranaguá to reinforce the network of protected coastal areas. Researchers, public managers, traditional community representatives and civil‑society groups discussed governance, ecological restoration, biodiversity monitoring, sustainable tourism and payment for ecosystem services. The event also underscored how Brazilian agribusiness is integrating wildlife preservation and advanced monitoring technologies to boost farm resilience and profitability, linking environmental stewardship with regional development goals.
