Paraná faces widespread damage from torrential rains and flooding

Severe torrential rains and storms have caused widespread damage across the state of Paraná, Brazil, affecting dozens of municipalities. Reports indicate that over 20,000 people have been impacted, with at least four deaths recorded and several individuals reported missing.

In the Vale do Ribeira region, the municipality of Adrianópolis has faced significant challenges, including the partial destruction of the BR-476 highway due to erosion, as well as interruptions to water and electricity supplies. Other affected areas include Cerro Azul, where road access has been compromised, and Araucária, where emergency teams are managing flooding and river level monitoring for the Iguaçu and Barigui rivers.

In the Vale do Ivaí region, heavy storms caused a crater to open in Mauá da Serra, leaving a family displaced, and impacted residents in Ivaiporã, Jardim Alegre, and Apucarana. Various municipalities, including União da Vitória and Wenceslau Braz, have declared states of emergency. The Civil Defense is currently providing humanitarian aid and monitoring high-risk areas to prevent further casualties from landslides and floods.
