Paraná storms cause five deaths and affect 24,000 people
Severe storms and heavy rains in Paraná have caused widespread destruction, affecting approximately 24,000 people across 83 to 84 municipalities. The disaster has resulted in at least five confirmed deaths, including a family of three in Ponta Grossa and individuals in Rio Branco do Sul and Tunas do Paraná.
In the Vale do Ivaí region, at least 81 residents were directly impacted. Specifically, in Mauá da Serra, a landslide opened a crater in a residential area, forcing a family to abandon their home. Other municipalities such as Ivaiporã, Jardim Alegre, and Apucarana also reported significant damage from flooding, wind, and landslides.
According to the state Civil Defense, the impact includes 3,544 damaged houses and 20 destroyed homes. The humanitarian situation is critical, with 2,340 people displaced and 611 left homeless, requiring public shelters. Emergency services, including the Military Police and Fire Department, are conducting searches for missing persons and providing aerial support to isolated areas like Adrianópolis to deliver medicine and transport patients.
