Paraná leads Brazil in education rankings according to 2025 Ideb

Paraná has secured the top national position in Brazil across all three stages of basic education according to the 2025 Ideb (Basic Education Development Index) results released by the Ministry of Education. The state recorded scores of 6.9 for the early years of elementary school, 5.8 for the final years, and 5.1 for high school.

In the capital, Curitiba has risen to the first position among Brazilian capitals for the early years of elementary school. Several municipal schools in the city showed significant score increases, most notably Escola Municipal Anísio Teixeira, which rose from 5.5 in 2023 to 7.4 in 2025. Other high-performing municipal units include Escola Municipal São Mateus do Sul, Vila Zanon, Lina M. M. Moreira, and Madre Maria dos Anjos.

The Ideb index is calculated based on student performance in the Saeb (Basic Education Evaluation System) for Portuguese and Mathematics, combined with school approval rates.
