Paraná leads Brazil with 72% homicide clearance, Acre ranks 11th

A study titled “Diagnóstico sobre a Investigação de Homicídios no Brasil” released by Instituto Sou da Paz on 8 July 2026 examined the proportion of homicides solved in Brazilian states between 2020 and 2023. The metric counts cases where a criminal complaint is filed by the Public Prosecutor within a year of the crime.

Paraná achieved a 72 % clearance rate, placing it fourth nationally behind Goiás (86 %), the Federal District (81 %) and Minas Gerais (75 %). State officials attribute the result to specialized personnel, advanced investigative technology and data‑driven intelligence methods similar to those used by the FBI.

The Acre state police recorded a 47 % clearance rate, ranking 11th in the country and surpassing states such as Maranhão, Amazonas and São Paulo. The study notes that higher clearance rates tend to accompany higher firearm seizure rates and stronger institutional coordination.

The ranking also highlighted rapid improvements in several states, with Rondônia rising to a 92 % clearance rate and Mato Grosso advancing to 71 % over the period.
