Paraná political showdown: Gleisi Hoffmann vs Sergio Moro ahead of 2026 election

The rivalry between PT deputy Gleisi Hoffmann and former judge Sergio Moro has resurfaced in Paraná, reviving the polarization that shaped Brazil’s politics after the Lava Jato operation. Both politicians are positioning themselves for the 2026 elections, with Moro leading polls as a pre‑candidate for governor and receiving support from figures such as Flávio Bolsonaro, while Hoffmann, now a Senate pre‑candidate, denounces him as a “judge‑thief” and vows to represent women in the Senate.

On 30 June, more than 6,000 people gathered in Curitiba for a joint launch event. Deputy Requião Filho (PDT) announced his pre‑candidacy for the state’s governorship, stressing a “state for the people” agenda, while Hoffmann outlined plans to defend health, security and to turn Paraná into a technology hub. The rally featured leaders from the PCdoB, PV, Rede, PSOL and national heads of the PDT and PT, underscoring the broad coalition behind the left‑wing candidates and highlighting the ongoing contest with Moro’s camp.
