Paraná-Paraguay Waterway begins new 25-year private concession

The Argentine government has launched a new 25-year concession for the Paraná-Paraguay Waterway, managed by the consortium Vía Navegable Argentina, which includes the Belgian firm Jan De Nul and the Argentine company Servimagnus.

The new agreement implements a 13.5% reduction in tolls, lowering the rate from US$4.30 to US$3.80 per net register ton. This change is expected to benefit the logistics chain by between US$375 million and US$456 million annually, enhancing the competitiveness of Argentine agro-industrial exports.

The concession covers the Vía Navegable Troncal, a strategic infrastructure involving approximately 60 port terminals that handles roughly 80% of the country's agro-industrial exports. Planned works include intensive dredging, buoyage, and channel widening, alongside the integration of advanced technologies such as radars and digital systems to improve navigation safety and efficiency. Total investments for the modernization of the route are estimated to reach US$10 billion over the 25-year period.
