Brazil: Multiple teachers arrested for sexual crimes against students
Multiple incidents involving teachers accused of sexual crimes against students have been reported across Brazil.
In Belo Horizonte, a 39-year-old professor was arrested for sexual harassment in the Barreiro region. Investigators identified four potential victims. The suspect allegedly used messaging apps to request intimate photos from adolescents, offering academic advantages in exchange. While he admitted to requesting intimate videos, he denied offering grade favors.
In Cafeara, Paraná, Alessandro Lucas Póvoa has become a defendant following accusations of attempted rape of a vulnerable person, sexual importuning, and sexual harassment against five students aged 12 to 17. The crimes reportedly occurred in classrooms.
In Boa Vista, Roraima, a 63-year-old teacher was arrested to serve an 11-year sentence for the 2012 rape of a 14-year-old student. The conviction follows a case where the victim was coerced and threatened within a state school.
