Sexual abuse allegations against Brazilian teachers

Overview

Legal proceedings and arrests have continued across Brazil following allegations of sexual abuse involving students.

In Belo Horizonte, a 39-year-old professor was arrested for sexual harassment in the Barreiro region. Investigators identified four potential victims. The suspect allegedly used messaging apps to request intimate photos from adolescents, offering academic advantages in exchange. While he admitted to requesting intimate videos, he denied offering grade favors.

In Paraná, Alessandro Lucas Póvoa has become a defendant in Cafeara, facing charges of attempted rape of a vulnerable person, sexual importuning, and sexual harassment against five students aged 12 to 17. The prosecution alleges these crimes occurred within classrooms.

In Boa Vista, Roraima, a 63-year-old teacher was arrested to serve an 11-year sentence for the 2012 rape of a 14-year-old student. The conviction follows a case where the victim was coerced and threatened within a state school.

These developments follow previous legal actions in Rio Grande do Sul, where a 59-year-old teacher in Cachoeirinha was charged with the rape of seven vulnerable students between 2025 and 2026.
