Paraná to implement supercomputer network for research and AI

The state of Paraná is implementing a network of nine supercomputers to bolster scientific research, technological development, and artificial intelligence projects. The initiative involves a technical order contract between Fundação Araucária, the State Secretariat of Science, Technology and Higher Education (Seti), and Hi-Mix Eletrônicos S/A.

The hardware, utilizing technology developed in India, will be distributed among seven state universities, the Paraná Institute of Technology (Tecpar), and the Paraná Rural Development Institute (IDR). The final assembly and integration of the equipment will take place in Pato Branco. The first units are expected to arrive in 2026, with full implementation scheduled by 2028.

The network is structured into four levels. The central hub, located at the State University of Ponta Grossa (UEPG), will feature a capacity of 650 teraflops (Tflops). Four other regional hubs—at Unioeste, UEM, UEL, and Unicentro—will each receive units with 300 Tflops capacity. Additional machines, known as PARAM Shavak, will be installed at UENP, Unespar, and Tecpar to support training and preliminary algorithm testing.
