Paraná state supercomputer network implementation

Overview

The state of Paraná, Brazil, is developing a high-performance computing (HPC) network to support scientific research, technological development, and artificial intelligence. The project is a collaboration between the state science agency SETI, Fundação Araucária, and the tech firm Hi-Mix Eletrônicos S/A.

The network will consist of nine supercomputers, including an AI-optimized machine, with hardware utilizing technology developed in India through partnerships with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) and VVDN. Assembly and integration are set to take place in Pato Branco.

The infrastructure is organized into a four-level structure. A central hub at the State University of Ponta Grossa (UEPG) will provide 650 teraflops (Tflops) of capacity, while four regional hubs at Unioeste, UEM, UEL, and Unicentro will each receive 300 Tflops units. Additional PARAM Shavak machines will be installed at UENP, Unespar, and Tecpar for algorithm testing and training. The first units are expected in 2026, with full implementation targeted for 2028.
