Bahia teenager dies after accidental electric shock

A 16-year-old girl, Maria Catarina Souza Carvalho, died following an electric shock in the Vereda village, located in the rural area of Central, Bahia. The incident occurred on the night of Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

According to family reports, the teenager was using a hair straightener when the accident happened. Her mother, who was briefly in another room, returned to find her daughter unconscious and still in contact with the electrical current. Although the mother attempted first aid and the girl was taken to the Municipal Hospital of Central, she did not survive.

The Civil Police have registered the case as an accidental death caused by electric shock. Authorities have initiated investigations and forensic procedures to determine the definitive cause and origin of the discharge.
