Fatal electrical accidents involving teenagers in Brazil

Overview

Two separate incidents involving fatal electrical shocks to teenagers have been reported in Brazil.

In May 2026, a 16-year-old girl in the Vereda village of Bahia died after an accident involving a hair straightener. Her mother discovered her unconscious, and despite attempts at first aid and transport to a municipal hospital, the teenager did not survive. Civil Police registered the case as an accidental death and initiated investigations.

In October 2026, a 16-year-old boy in Tabira, Pernambuco, died while cleaning a water tank. The teenager was reportedly using an electric extension cord for light when he suffered an electrical discharge. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at a municipal hospital. The Civil Police of Pernambuco have registered the incident as an accidental death and are investigating the circumstances.
