Parauapebas boosts women’s protection with new law and national observatory showcase

The municipality of Parauapebas was highlighted at the launch of Brazil’s National Network of Women’s Observatories in Brasília, where its Gender Observatory presented its methodology, inter‑sectoral governance model and Amazon‑specific challenges. Coordinators praised the initiative as a reference for other regions.

Following the event, Parauapebas approved Law 5.667, which classifies services for women victims of violence as essential and guarantees their uninterrupted operation, even during holidays or emergencies. The law secures continuous psychosocial, legal and emergency support, resources for the Patrulha Maria da Penha, and mandates contingency planning and funding for the municipal Women’s Secretariat (Semmu).
