Parco degli Iblei: Sicilian officials seek new legislative plan

The Sicilian Regional Assembly's IV Commission on Environment, Territory, and Mobility has called for a new phase of consultation regarding the establishment of the Parco degli Iblei. While there is general consensus on the importance of environmental protection, local authorities and regional deputies expressed significant opposition to the current proposal and its specific boundaries (perimetration).

Giuseppe Carta, president of the commission, stated that the current plan risks causing irreparable damage to the economic development of the area. The commission intends to gather observations from local entities to request that the national government and Parliament formulate a new law that better aligns with the current socio-economic dynamics of the territory.

In contrast, regional deputy Carlo Auteri announced his refusal to participate in the commission session. He argued that the discussions are too late and that the focus should shift from mere boundary definitions to addressing urgent environmental issues, specifically citing critical failures in water purification systems within the affected municipalities.
