Pardubice and Přelouč expand Stolpersteine memorial project

The cities of Pardubice and Přelouč in the Czech Republic are expanding their Stolpersteine (Stumbling Stones) memorial networks to honor victims of the Nazi regime.

Pardubice has added ten new brass memorial stones, bringing its total to 70. The recent installations in Smilova, Legií Square, and Nerudova streets commemorate families such as the Zinners, the Friedmanns, and Hugo and Anna Hoch. These memorials are placed in sidewalks in front of the former homes of those persecuted.

In Přelouč, a collaboration between the city and the State District Archive in Pardubice has led to the addition of five new stones. The new memorials honor individuals including Regina Hirschová, a widow of a teacher, and members of the Mandelíková and Libenský families. One stone commemorates Oldřich Libenský, a resistance fighter who was executed in Prague in 1944 and never met his son, who was born two months after his arrest.
