Stolpersteine memorial installations in Europe

Overview

Municipalities across Europe are expanding the use of Stolpersteine, or ‘stumbling stones’, to commemorate victims of the Nazi regime and other forms of political repression.

In Catalonia, towns such as Sant Martí de Tous and Cervià de Ter are installing these brass memorials to honor local residents who were victims of Nazi deportation and Francoist repression. These initiatives, supported by organizations like Memorial Democràtic, aim to restore the identities of persecuted individuals and raise awareness against hate speech.

In the Czech Republic, the cities of Pardubice and Přelouč are also growing their memorial networks. Pardubice has added ten new stones to its existing collection to honor various families, while a collaboration in Přelouč has resulted in five new installations honoring individuals including resistance fighters and victims of persecution.
