Pardubický Region Deploys Solar Power on Schools and Public Facilities

The Pardubický Region in the Czech Republic is installing photovoltaic (PV) solar arrays on a total of 24 public institutions, including secondary schools, hospitals, children's homes and the regional ambulance base in Svitavy. The overall investment amounts to roughly 143 million CZK, with an expected EU grant of 46 million CZK.

The programme aims to lower operating costs and increase energy self‑sufficiency for regional facilities. At the Secondary School of Automotive Engineering in Holice, a 6.37 million CZK system cut grid electricity use by about 30 % and helped reduce total electricity expenses by up to 60 %. Surplus power is stored in batteries and shared with a nearby youth centre. The region anticipates a payback period of six to eight years.

An Energy Community of Eastern Bohemia, launched in May, will enable participating institutions to exchange excess electricity, with a target of 37 organisations across Pardubice, Chrudim and surrounding districts.
