Parghelia restores coastal bathing suitability after sewage emergency

The local opposition group ‘Guardare al Futuro’ in Parghelia has called for increased transparency and reflection regarding the management of essential services and environmental protection following a recent coastal emergency.

Following investigations and monitoring by the Carabinieri, ARPACAL, the Calabria Region, and the Public Prosecutor's Office of Vibo Valentia, the coastal waters in the Sabbie Bianche / Fornaci area have been secured and returned to legal compliance. Consequently, Mayoral Ordinance n. 25 of August 24, 2026, revoked the previous ban and restored full bathing suitability to the area.

Despite the resolution, the opposition group has raised questions regarding the administrative management prior to the intervention. They noted that previous municipal orders indicated an urgent need for repairs to sewage lifting pumps, extraordinary maintenance of the sewage network, and the remediation of rainwater pipes affected by sewage mixing.
