Pariconha food poisoning victims discharged as investigation continues
Six men who were hospitalized after falling ill at Pariconha's open-air market have been released and returned home. The patients were admitted to the Hospital Regional do Alto Sertão (HRAS) in Delmiro Gouveia following severe symptoms that authorities suspect were caused by a contaminated beverage consumed at the market.
One of the seven initial victims, 36‑year‑old Gilberto Alves Vicente, died. Toxicological analysis by the Alagoas Police Scientific Service detected an agricultural insecticide in biological samples, prompting a criminal investigation by the Polícia Civil de Alagoas. Municipal health secretary Gizely Sá confirmed that the laboratory results are pending and that health officials continue to monitor the situation while awaiting official reports from the state laboratory (LACEM).
