Paris Court Rejects Bid to Bar Marine Le Pen's 'Renaissance' Slogan

On 30 July 2026 the Paris judicial court denied the Renaissance party’s request for provisional measures to stop Marine Le Pen from using the word “Renaissance” on her presidential campaign material. The judges held that the term is a common word used in a political context, not a trademark, and therefore the claim of trademark infringement or parasitism was dismissed. The court also ordered the Renaissance party to pay €5,000 each to Marine Le Pen and the Rassemblement National for legal costs. Following the ruling, the Renaissance party announced it will appeal the decision.

The ruling clarifies that political slogans are outside the scope of commercial trademark law in France and that the use of the generic term “renaissance” does not create confusion with the party name “Renaissance”.
