Paris Koukouloupolous proposes extension for Greek lignite units

Paris Koukouloupolous has submitted a legislative amendment to extend the operation of specific lignite power units in Greece, proposing they operate outside the mechanisms of the energy exchange. The amendment targets units III, IV, and V of the Agios Dimitrios power plant and the Ptolemaida V unit.

The proposal suggests these units remain operational until the commencement of hydrocarbon production in Greek maritime areas, provided they do not exceed established time limits of 2030, 2040, or 2050 depending on the specific unit. The initiative aims to provide a transition period for the Western Macedonia region, bolster national energy security, and protect consumers and businesses from high energy costs.
