Paris officials face scrutiny over extracurricular violence reports
Former Paris officials are facing scrutiny regarding the handling of sexual violence reports within the city's extracurricular programs. During recent hearings, former directors of the Social Affairs Department defended their services while acknowledging administrative shortcomings.
Contradictory evidence has emerged following the release of a 2022 video by Mediapart. The footage shows a meeting between the SOS Périscolaire parent collective and city officials, including former education deputy Patrick Bloche. In the video, Bloche claimed the system was functioning correctly and that the city consistently referred cases to the judiciary. However, former Mayor Anne Hidalgo recently testified that the administration failed to implement systematic reporting to the prosecutor (under Article 40) between 2021 and 2025, despite her instructions.
Additionally, a recording features former deputy director Éric Laurier characterizing some child testimonies as 'fanciful.' Bérénice Delpal, the former director of social affairs, defended these remarks by suggesting they reflected a desire not to overreact to parental anxiety, noting that some information appeared linked to such concerns according to the minor's brigade.
