Paris summit of 37 nations on Ukraine
Leaders from 37 countries gathered in Paris for a summit initiated by French President Emmanuel Macron to coordinate support for Ukraine. Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis attended alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, heads of the European Union and NATO, and at least 25 other heads of state.
The meeting focused on bolstering Ukraine’s military defence, especially air‑defence capabilities against Russian attacks, imposing a new package of European sanctions on Moscow, and preparing a security framework for any future peace process. Participants also discussed deeper cooperation on anti‑air and anti‑missile systems and the possibility of licensed production of weapons inside Ukraine.
Analysts warn that without a comprehensive post‑war security arrangement Europe risks a new arms competition. They cite France’s increased defence spending and the strategic roles of Poland and Romania as examples of broader Atlantic realignments that could shape Europe’s security landscape beyond the Ukraine conflict.
