Paris: Suspect indicted in homophobic attack on LGBT+ police association president

A suspect has been indicted following a violent homophobic attack against Pierre Picavet, a police officer and president of FLAG!, an association representing LGBT+ members of the Ministry of the Interior and Ministry of Justice.

The assault occurred around 4:00 AM on a Saturday in the Marais district of Paris. The victim sustained severe injuries, including internal bleeding and a skull fracture, reportedly caused by a thrown bottle.

The suspect, a young man born in 2006 with no prior criminal record, faces charges of aggravated violence and theft. Prosecutors noted several aggravating circumstances, including the motive being based on the victim's sexual orientation or gender identity, the suspect's manifest state of intoxication, and the use of a weapon. The suspect has been placed under judicial supervision, which includes restrictions on entering certain Paris districts, prohibitions on contacting the victim, and requirements for addiction treatment and police check-ins.
