Park City Police K-9 Bruno injured during suspicious object investigation

The Park City Police Department has released video footage documenting an incident on September 15 in which K-9 Bruno, an explosives detection dog, was seriously injured. The incident occurred at the U.S. 40 and I-80 interchange in Silver Summit while Bruno and his handler, Officer Henderson, were assisting the Utah Highway Patrol in investigating a suspicious object.

Dash camera footage shows Bruno performing an off-leash search before unexpectedly jumping over a concrete barrier from a flyover ramp to the roadway below. The suspicious object was later identified as a car battery that had fallen off a vehicle.

Following the incident, an independent review by Utah Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) concluded that Officer Henderson deployed the K-9 in accordance with standard POST tactics. Bruno, who sustained injuries to his legs and jaw, is currently recovering at home.
