Park City Police K9 Bruno injury and recovery
Overview
On September 15, Park City Police K9 Bruno, an explosives detection dog, was seriously injured during an investigation into a suspicious object at the U.S. 40 and I-80 interchange. While assisting the Utah Highway Patrol, Bruno jumped over a concrete barrier from a flyover ramp to the roadway below. The object being investigated was later identified as an e-bike or car battery.
Bruno sustained a fractured jaw and two broken legs. Following surgery at MedVet Animal Hospital in Salt Lake City, the dog returned home to recover. The Park City Police Department reported that Bruno is ‘in good spirits’ and ‘officially on the mend.’
An independent review by Utah Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) concluded that the handler, Officer Henderson, deployed the K9 in accordance with standard POST tactics.
