Paros beach bar waiter serves drinks in sea, sparking debate in Greece
A video filmed on the Greek island of Paros shows a beach‑bar waiter walking through the sea to refill wine glasses for tourists who remain on floating platforms. The clip went viral on social media, prompting polarized reactions: some praised the service as typical of luxury tourism, while others criticised it as exploitation and unsafe working conditions.
Greek media nicknamed the young employee “Rambo.” The bar’s owner later told the television channel MEGA that the incident was meant as a joke among staff. The episode revived memories of a similar 2023 incident on the island of Rhodes, where a waiter also waded into the water to serve customers, prompting a ministerial response.
The debate has broadened to labour rights in Greece’s hospitality sector, which is experiencing one of its busiest tourist seasons in recent years.
