PAS to Decide Future Alliance with Bersatu Amid Malaysian Coalition Talks

Malaysia's Islamist party PAS is set to hold a Central Committee meeting to determine its relationship with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu). President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said the decision follows recommendations from the PAS Shura Council and will also cover the number of seats PAS will contest in the Johor state election and the party's logo.

Bersatu leader Muhyiddin Yassin confirmed receipt of a PAS letter outlining proposals to strengthen the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition and reiterated the party's commitment to maintain good relations with PAS. Political analysts, including Prof. Mazlan Ali, cautioned that Bersatu would struggle electorally if PAS withdrew, noting PAS's extensive grassroots network and its pivotal role in previous Bersatu election victories. The outcome could reshape the balance of power among Malaysia's major political blocs.

The meeting is expected to take place on Monday, with both parties poised to influence upcoming electoral contests.
