PAS to meet Perlis Menteri Besar to resolve administration crisis
The Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) plans to meet with Perlis Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah to address an administrative crisis in the state. The tension follows the suspension of Abu Bakar's membership in Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) for two party election terms.
PAS Secretary-General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan stated that a formal letter has been sent to the Menteri Besar to initiate discussions. While PAS remains part of the state government under the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition, no PAS representatives currently hold positions in the Executive Council (Exco).
Takiyuddin noted that Bersatu requires PAS support to maintain a governing majority. Currently, Bersatu holds five seats, while PAS holds six and Pakatan Harapan holds one. Without PAS, Bersatu lacks the minimum eight seats required to form a government in the 15-seat Perlis State Legislative Assembly.
