PAS Perlis administrative and political crisis

Overview

The political situation in Perlis involved an administrative crisis affecting the state government and the PAS party branch. Initially, tensions arose following the suspension of Perlis Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah from the Bersatu party. This created a governing challenge within the Perikatan Nasional coalition, as Bersatu required PAS support to maintain a majority in the 15-seat State Legislative Assembly.

To address these issues, PAS leadership sought discussions with the Menteri Besar. The internal crisis within the Perlis branch of PAS had previously been managed by a Temporary Administrative Committee (JTS) chaired by Vice President Datuk Idris Ahmad. By October 2026, party leadership indicated the crisis was nearing a full resolution, with most issues resolved through the principle of ‘walak’ (loyalty) to central leadership. The party subsequently shifted its focus toward preparations for the 16th General Election.
