PAS Weakens Perikatan Nasional Coalition Ahead of Malaysian Election

The opposition party PAS has been accused of undermining the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition by leaving its partner, Bersatu, in political limbo. Prof. Dr. P. Ramasamy, leader of the Urimai party, said PAS’s actions are undemocratic and jeopardise the young opposition bloc, noting that a recent PN high‑level meeting focused on admitting two new parties – Pejuang and Parti Cinta Malaysia (now Parti Wawasan Nasional) – while postponing any decision on Bersatu’s future. Ramasamy warned that strengthening PAS’s control comes at a high price, weakening the opposition front and potentially benefitting rival coalitions Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional. He also highlighted Muhyiddin Yassin’s response, including the launch of the Ikatan Prihatin Rakyat platform, as an attempt to counter the intra‑coalition dispute.
