PASOK calls for urgent reform of private healthcare oversight in Greece

Political representatives from PASOK-Kίνημα Αλλαγής are calling for an urgent reorganization of oversight mechanisms within the private healthcare sector in Greece. The demand follows a prosecutor's intervention and an order for a preliminary investigation into the death of Giorgos Mazonakis at a private medical facility.

Ioannis Tsimaris, a PASOK MP, has submitted a parliamentary question to the Minister of Health addressing the legality of private healthcare operations and the adequacy of preventive inspections. The party highlights that since the 2019 abolition of the Health and Welfare Services Inspectorate (SEYYP), the specialized inspection capacity has been weakened, with responsibilities transferred to the National Transparency Authority.

Spokesperson Kostas Tsoukalas emphasized that the protection of public health requires a proactive and systematic supervision system with clear mandates and sufficient staffing, rather than relying on investigations that occur only after serious incidents have taken place.
