PASOK criticizes Greek Health Minister over private healthcare oversight

The opposition party PASOK has issued sharp criticisms against Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis and the New Democracy government regarding the oversight of private healthcare facilities in Greece.

Following the implementation of the MedWatch system, PASOK claims the Minister has admitted to a ‘perforated regime of controls, supervision, and misleading advertisements’ within private health structures. The party argues that the government is attempting to frame the discovery of widespread illegality as a success, rather than addressing why such a lack of oversight was allowed to persist for so long.

PASOK spokesperson Kostas Tsoukalas also noted the Minister's intention to reconsider the re-establishment of a health services inspectorate body, which was abolished in 2019. The opposition further criticized the Minister for his past media activities and his stance on promoting private medical centers, questioning the institutional neutrality required of his office.
